On this day, 5 January, 1900...

As part of my blog, I will be periodically be doing a short 'On this day' article featuring a member of the Sarson family.

On this day, 5 January, in 1900, Lavinia Sarson was born and her birth was registered in the district of Melton Mowbray in the county of Leicestershire in the country of England[1]. She was the daughter of  John Thomas Sarson and Mary Jane Marriott. Although I do not have a copy of Lavinia's birth certificate from the General Register Office, her date of birth is noted on her Baptism record [2], the 1939 Register [3] and her death index in 1975 [4].

According to her Baptism record [5], the 1901 England Census [6], the 1911 England Census [7] the 1939 Register [8] and her probate entry [9] , Lavina lived in Asfordby, a village 3 miles west of the market town of Melton Mowbray, her whole life.

The settlement of Asfordby is mentioned in the Doomsday Book [10]. Today it is home to more than 3200 residents [11].

GOONS Blog Challenge 2020

I have committed to taking part in the GOONS (Guild of One Name Studies) Blog Challenge 2020.

I am not sure what form this will currently take as I am still mulling it over. Many folks who have One Name Studies have also taken up this challenge! Search for GOONS Blog Challenge 2020 on Facebook if you are interested in also taking this challenge.

In the meantime, I have updated my 'On this day...' blog and will update this at least weekly featuring a different Sarson.
